We are making plans for our next lighting workshop that will be held in Tunbridge Wells on Sunday 14th March 2010. As with all previous workshops, the number of participants will be kept to a minimum to ensure the best ‘hands on’ experience for everyone attending. post The Tunbridge Wells Rocks

December 17th, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve Collins @ 9:47 pm

Eridge Rocks
In February 2010 I am taking part in an exhibition at The Tunbridge Wells Museum and Art Gallery, celebrating the unique sandstone outcrops that can be found in and around our town and the surrounding High Weald.

The High Weald sand rocks have fascinated residents and visitors for over 6000 years.  They have provided an unchanging backdrop for a story that stretches from prehistoric hunter-gatherers, through Georgian and Victorian holidaymakers, to the present day.  This exhibition uses historic images and objects from the Museum collection, along with newly commissioned art work, to explore how generations of people have responded to the rocks as places of wonder and mystery.

I am keen to hear from anyone who has a close connection with the Tunbridge Wells Rocks and who would be interested in having their portrait taken for inclusion in the exhibition. If you are interested, please email me at steve@momofoto.co.uk or call me on 07872 61160.

post Ziggi’s “Best Bits” On Flickr

June 27th, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve Collins @ 8:01 am

Those who know us, know we have a dog called Ziggi. Ziggi is a gorgeous Rough Collie / Hungarian Puli cross that we have been sharing our lives with since September 2008.

Well Ziggi is making quite a name for himself on the photo-sharing website, Flickr. Not only have 10 shots of Ziggi made ‘Explore’ (The 500 ‘most interesting shots’ on Flickr, picked each day from the 1 million+ that are uploaded), but he also had a recent appearance on the official Flickr ‘Blog’.

So in celebration of Ziggi’s new found fame on Flickr, here’s a quick slideshow of some of his ‘best bits’ over the last 9 months ;)

post Lighting Workshop – Saturday 6th June

June 3rd, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve Collins @ 7:05 pm

The Lighting Workshop on Saturday 6th June is now full. If you are interested in future dates, either check back here regularly or follow me on twitter if you want to be the first to hear :)

Mystified by Off-Camera Flash? Well Don’t Be!

The digital camera revolution has opened up a whole, new style of flash photography. With just a camera, a small flash gun (or strobe) and a few basic accessories, you’ll have access to an exciting new world of imagery. Not only is this style of shooting easy, it’s portable too – so you can take these techniques with you wherever you go.

In fact the hardest part of learning this style of shooting is getting out there and doing it! And that’s the purpose of this lighting workshop. A series of hands-on, information-packed sessions during which you’ll learn about the components that make up a basic, one-light kit, how to manipulate light to give your images real punch and how to shoot and review using your camera to get just the results you want. We’ll end up shooting with experienced models, so that you can concentrate on putting the techniques into practice.

The cost for this 6 hour workshop is just £50 and limited to 6 participants. For more details, please email steve at steve@momofoto.co.uk.

post Tunbridge Wells Flickr Group

February 3rd, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve Collins @ 11:17 pm

Those who know me know I’m a big fan of Flickr -the photo sharing website. Flickr has over 2 million images uploaded each day and is a thriving online community.

Well Flickr now has a very active Tunbridge Wells group – with over 70 members – and last Saturday saw the very first “Flickr Meet” in the town. We also have a permanent display of images in The Ragged Trousers bar on The Pantiles.

You can join in with the group’s discussions or just browse it’s photo ‘pool’ at http://www.flickr.com/groups/tunbridgewells. We often meet in The Ragged Trousers during the week – just keep an eye on the discussions for more details.

post Hoar Frost at Harrison’s Rocks

January 12th, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steve Collins @ 10:24 pm

At this time of year, when events and shows are few and far between, I get the chance to focus on another passion, local landscape photography. Down here on the Kent / Sussex border we had the most spectacular day on Saturday – an amazing hoar frost covering everything in sight. This image – taken at Harrison’s Rocks – is constructed from 9 seperate exposures – a technique that allows you to capture a high dynamic range, hence the term ‘HDR’ photography. You can see more HDR photography and learn more about it on the following web sites;
